Anniversary
250 years
La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra
Opera has been performed in Brussels since 1647, but it was not until 1772 that La Monnaie directors, Ignace Vitzthumb and Louis Compain, closed an official agreement with the government of the Austrian Netherlands, obliging them to maintain a quality orchestra with a fixed number of musicians. And with that, the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra was born 250 years ago!

No festive year would be complete without a new creation! And so Belgian composer Harold Noben is writing a 'concerto for orchestra', completely tailored to our soloists. Massenet, Strauss, Prokofiev
SU 9.10 – 20:00
The Music Director who gave our orchestra a boost from 2002 to 2008 is now returning, twenty years from his appointment. His programme does full justice to the prestigious era around the turn of the last century: music from Massenet's Hérodiade (created at La Monnaie), Strauss' Salome (comme à l'époque, in French!) and Prokofiev's Fifth symphony (once a personal guest at La Monnaie).
