Prokofiev was a true child prodigy. At the age of five he wrote his first piano piece, and by the age of nine he had already finished his first opera. The Giant became a three-act play in which a girl is saved from an evil giant by her two friends and a Good King. For the transcription of his music, Prokofiev could count on the help of his mother, and the first (and for the time being only) performance of the first act of this fairy tale opera took place at his uncle's estate.
