In the Opera House

THE MAIN AUDITORIUM

The heart of the opera house, with 1,152 seats upholstered in red velour and gilt stucco, the Main Auditorium – designed in a style that juxtaposes neo-baroque and neo-Empire elements – is one of the grandest auditoria in Europe.

THE ROYAL SALON

An exclusive reception area located on the same level as the first balcony, the Royal Salon was completely restored in 1985. The black and white marblefloor is by Daniel Buren, the columns by Charles Vandenhove, and the sculptures by Giulio Paolini.

THE GRAND FOYER

The typically 19th-century decorative charm of the Grand Foyer – with the exception of the ceiling, which was painted by Thierry Bosquet (1970) – provides an intimate and prestigious setting for chamber music concerts and other events.

THE ENTRANCE HALL

Redesigned in 1985 by the architect Charles Vandenhove, the Entrance Hall of the opera house has a double-fan-patterned black and white marble floor designed by Sol LeWitt and a triptych on the ceiling painted by Sam Francis.

THE BONBONNIÈRE

A stylish and welcoming hallway, the Bonbonnière has a bar and offers a view over the Entrance Hall of La Monnaie. It is here that the introductions are presented before every opera performance.

THE GRAND STAIRCASE

Lined with French-style decorations and monumental symbolist paintings completed between 1907 and 1933 by Émile Fabry, the red carpet of the Grand Staircase leads audience members from the Entrance Hall to the stalls in the Main Auditorium.

THE CHOIR HALL

Mainly used for the rehearsals of our different Choruses, this room located on the top floor ofthe opera house has two balconies offering a spectacular view of the historic centre of Brussels.

THE KUFFERATH FOYER

Located on the seventh floor of the opera house, the Kufferath Foyer can hold 80 people. Decorated with black-and-white photographs by Günther Förg and containing a bar, it is a welcoming meeting place with a view of Place de la Monnaie.
