La Monnaie invites residents and artists from different communities in Brussels to draw inspiration from the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and the Persian love story of Layla and Majnun for a period of two seasons. In a range of workshops, we will work together on the music, text, images, and movements of what will be a major music-theatre production. Here, everyone can put their talent and creativity to use!
Following the first phases, Sounds of Longing and Songs of Longing, this community project will reach its twin apotheoses in June 2018. During the Parcours Love, Loss & Longing, you will be able to attend the presentations of all the participating groups in several locations in and around La Monnaie. You will also see some mythical animals, brought to life in several workshops, that will be released along a route through the city. There will also be a collective singing moment at Place de la Monnaie and last but not least, the opera Orfeo & Majnun will have a festive opening at La Monnaie.
