Art Deco Concert at Van Buuren Museum

Presentation

Echoes of Art Deco

Bold lines, luxurious materials, and an avant-garde spirit — Art Deco is undoubtedly one of the most thrilling artistic movements of the interwar period. While it flourished primarily in architecture and interior design, composers of the 1920s and 1930s also fully embraced stylistic and expressive experimentation, balancing elegance with irony, and tradition with modernity.

In honor of the Art Deco at Home festival and the fiftieth anniversary of the Van Buuren Museum, soprano Gwendolyn Blondeel, mezzo-soprano Marie-Juliette Ghazarian, and pianist Ouri Bronchti present a recital celebrating the musical diversity of the Art Deco era. Surrounded by the splendor of the Van Buuren Gardens — an exceptional piece of green heritage in the heart of Brussels — these La Monnaie artists will immerse you in the refined French idiom of Francis Poulenc and Erik Satie, as well as the sharp-witted irony of Kurt Weill
