A man takes his daughter to the mountains of Colombia, which he protects by planting thousands of trees. Deep in guerrilla territory, however, evil lurks everywhere: one day, he is kidnapped by snakes and transported to the heart of the jungle, where he is left for dead. Nature responds with comforting metamorphoses: a tree rises from the man’s body, his daughter’s tears flow with the rain to form a rainbow river that crosses the entire country in search of meaning beyond loss …
For their latest creation, Snake, Anna and Howard Moody drew inspiration from Eulogy for a man who still lives, the moving testimony of dancer María Sara Villa about the sudden abduction of her father in Colombia. The natural beauty he wanted to protect, the music he continued to cherish during his captivity, his daughter’s search for him and the processing of her loss through dance: all these elements are given a place in this sung parable which, following the success of Push and Solar, is once again being created in collaboration with the Children’s and Youth Choirs of La Monnaie, conducted by Benoît Giaux and directed by Benoît De Leersnyder.
