Music for a While
Singing Molenbeek, Equinox, Remua & Young Belgian Strings

Presentation

‘Our school is free. I’m giving them what’s theirs. Their music. All Robert ever wanted was to build this school.’
– Ruth (The Time of Our Singing)

In The Time of Our Singing, Ruth’s struggle for civil rights takes various forms. Convinced that the social development of her community should go hand-in-hand with education, she eventually builds a free school where music is used as an educational tool.

That is the spirit the singers of Singing Molenbeek and Equinox, accompanied by the Young Belgian Strings and Remua, want to celebrate in this vibrant concert in the Fiocco Room. These Brussels-based ensembles, which give young people the chance to learn to play music, deliver with great panache a programme that stretches from Antonio Vivaldi to Kris Defoort, and from Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ to traditional songs from Polynesia, Brazil and Guinea.
