Impossible love, a theme as old as humankind, portrayed and sung by the very greatest. For their latest dance creation, Rosalba Torres Guerrero and Koen Augustijnen take their inspiration from Claudio Monteverdi’s opera L’Orfeo and his dramatic madrigal Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda. Two stories about iconic couples whose doomed love affair also captivated many other baroque composers. Amours Aveugles, performed musically by two accordionists alongside soprano Liesbeth Devos and tenor Ed Lyon, does not shy away from the great emotions these works evoke. Nor from the big questions: How can we become so blinded by love that we commit the irrevocable? Why do we sometimes inflict the most pain on those we love the most? And what meaning can myths still have today in our uber-digitized and highly individualized world?
