Inside the Music is a series of musical lectures where you can learn all about the works on our programme.
For Rivoluzione e Nostalgia, conductor Carlo Goldstein delved into Giuseppe Verdi's first sixteen operas and forged with the most impressive highlights a new, coherent musical dramaturgy of almost 4 hours. If there is anyone who can guide you through the emblematic arias, preludios, scenas, choral parts, duets and ensembles of the young Verdi, it must be him.
Which are the musical building blocks of these early operas? What is the secret behind such immortal hits as the slave chorus "Va, pensiero" or an aria like "Quando le sere al placido"? And how did Carlo Goldstein compile the music for this new narrative without altering the dramatic core of each number? In the cosy setting of our Grand Foyer and with a pianist at his side, the conductor zooms in on all these questions, and many more. We will conclude this accessible lecture with a free reception.
