A quarter century of métier as opera director of La Monnaie and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. A half century of unconditional devotion to the mysteries and revelations of music. A lifetime of commitment and, from behind his round glasses, an open, humanist view of our world. All this now culminates in his first opera, Cassandra. Meet Bernard Foccroulle at a musical meet-and-greet in our Fiocco Room. In conversation with Patrick Leterme, he will take an hour to unravel the secrets of his own score.
Between the first vague idea and the final correction on the proof, what is involved in the composition of an opera? In what ways did Claudio Monteverdi and Claude Debussy inspire Cassandra? And what is the underlying connection between the humming of bees and Johann Sebastian Bach? Find out during this encounter, which will be followed by a reception.
