Once upon a time...
in a small country house, on a Russian winter’s evening. Tsar Saltan, who is looking for a wife, enters the house and chooses the youngest of three sisters, who soon becomes pregnant. Green with jealousy, the tsarina’s two elder sisters plot to have her and her child, Gvidon, thrown into the sea. Mother and son survive and find themselves on an enchanted island. There, the young prince has many adventures: he saves a princess who had been transformed into a swan, he sees a magnificent city appear out of nowhere, and he even turns into a bumblebee. Going through a wide variety of emotions, he learns to listen to what he feels …
Alongside our production of The Tale of Tsar Saltan, we are presenting a family Concertino for children aged 8 and up. Pianist Irina Lankova, accompanied by a narrator and two singers of our MM Academy, will draw parallels between Pushkin’s original tale and Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera. On a bare stage, with a piano as the only scenic element, they will take you on a mellow journey of initiation, a musical celebration of wonder and childhood for young and old alike.
