Nous n’avons rien à nous dire, tant nous sommes près l’un de l’autre.— Pierre Louÿs
With its inimitable hues, Claude Debussy’s modern musical language makes him a true revolutionary. His works for voice and piano transpose the most beautiful poems of the French language, from Verlaine to Baudelaire. Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená invites you to explore this charming world full of nuance and refinement in the first recital of the season. Among other works, she will perform Les Chansons de Bilitis, which Debussy composed from texts by Pierre Louÿs, bathing in the sensuality and mystery of the ancient Greek poems. Also on the programme, Olivier Messiaen’s Poèmes pour Mi, in which the composer set to music his own verses celebrating his love for his wife, violinist Claire Delbos.
