Music consists in elevating us as far as possible above what is.— Gabriel Fauré
Hardly any emotion is as intense and immediate as that provoked by a chorus in unison. Whether sacred or secular, choral singing is a musical genre in its own right with a particularly rich history. From time immemorial, it has enabled composers to highlight the beauty of the human voice in countless combinations. The La Monnaie Choruses, their conductor and artistic director Emmanuel Trenque, and the soloists of the MM Academy will present the French side of this repertoire in the neo-Gothic setting of the Dominican Church.
Gabriel Fauré’s choral music is famous for its purity, freshness and gentle melodies. Francis Poulenc, by contrast, entrusted to the chorus the expression of his own faith, especially towards the end of his life, in works that are now exuberant and joyful, now serene and mystical, but always sincere. By bringing together these two masters of song, this concert will give you an experience that is as sensory as it is spiritual.
