THe past cannot be cured— Elizabeth I Tudor
Betrayal knows many guises, Elizabeth’s punishment only one. As ‘favourites’ come and go, one star remains in her place in the political firmament: that of Good Queen Bess, once ‘The Fairy Queen’... Her decline has begun, but until the end she remains the epicentre of the world. And that world is a stage.
In this second part of Bastarda, La Monnaie revives the heyday and the demise of Elizabeth I of England (1533-1603). Prepare for the musical highlights of Gaetano Donizetti's Tudor tetralogy, breathtaking costumes and historically informed props, dance and video, grand entrances and tragic exits. A unique total spectacle, which our workshops have been working on for years.
This performance begins with a summary of the preceding events and you can enjoy it separately from Bastarda Part 1 without any problem.
