Folly in all her facets
Madness, personified as Folly, was a major character in many operas in the Baroque period, inspiring a number of composers largely due to her enormous theatrical potential. She can be charming, passionate, despairing or furious. Drawing on these multiple facets, the musicians of the Ensemble Amarillis and the mezzo-soprano Stéphanie d’Oustrac take us through an original storyline, recounting Folly’s first loves and her disillusionment. Their story is punctuated with particularly expressive tunes from the imaginations of Henry Purcell, André Campra, André Cardinal Destouches and George Frideric Handel, among others. A show just meant for Stéphanie d’Oustrac who will once again have the chance to demonstrate her talent as a tragic actress and give free rein to her incomparable sense of theatre.
