It takes place in Spain under the scorching Seville sun. A man and a woman meet in an amazingly tragic setting to live out a true love affair. It is a story of love at first sight, of caresses, of misunderstandings, of tenderness, of betrayal, of beauty and of vengeance…
Our audiences marvelled at its (Victor) Frankenstein in 2019 and now the Compagnie Karyatides returns to La Monnaie with an adaptation of Bizet's opera and of Prosper Mérimée’s original novella, mixing theatre of objects and music. Performed in both Dutch and French, Carmen is the perfect introduction to the world of opera for everyone aged nine and over.
