It's hard to think of another singer who is more compelling in this repertory.— The Guardian
The soprano Véronique Gens and the ensemble I Giardini, in collaboration with the Palazzetto Bru Zane, present a musical and poetic programme devoted entirely to the eminently romantic theme of night-time. The mysteries of darkness, nocturnal solitude, and of course, dreams and nightmares have always stirred composers’ imaginations.
In addition to well-known works by Hector Berlioz and Gabriel Fauré, this programme also shines a light on unsung gems by Guillaume Lekeu, Ernest Chausson, and Guy Ropartz. It alternates between purely instrumental pieces, played by the piano and string quartet, and vocal mélodies. The latter will be performed by the superb soprano, renowned storyteller, and frequent guest at La Monnaie, Véronique Gens.
