There are not many composers so thoroughly identified with their homelands as the Finn Jean Sibelius and the Norwegian Edvard Grieg. In a mini-festival dedicated to some of their absolute masterpieces, Alain Altinoglu takes you on an astonishing musical adventure through the Nordic lands.
Our second evening opens with Jean Sibelius’ iconic Violin Concerto, a signature piece for the young Austrian violinist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. What better way to debut at La Monnaie? Also on the programme: an anthology from Edvard Grieg’s beloved theatre music for Peer Gynt, the play by Henrik Ibsen.
