When the new season comes, When the cold has gone...— LES NUITS D'ÉTÉ (HECTOR BERLIOZ, THÉOPHILE GAUTIER)
At La Monnaie next season she is taking on the title role in Carmen, but fortunately you don’t have to wait till then to drink in the voice of Stéphanie d’Oustrac. In an intimate recital with her regular pianist Pascal Jourdan, she will perform carefully selected songs from French and German romanticism with great European poetry as the leitmotif: passages from Andromaque by Jean Racine, set to music by a composer adored during her lifetime but unjustly neglected today, Pauline Viardot; songs by Franz Liszt to texts by Heinrich Heine and Goethe; and a homage to ‘the Bard’ and to Théophile Gautier with Hector Berlioz’ La mort d’Ophélie and the iconic Nuits d’été respectively.
