One of the great opera singers of the day, Michael Spyres mainly made a name for himself with his impressive vocal versatility and his very diverse opera repertoire, an eclecticism that he has recently started to explore in the field of the recital. An unforgettable Arnold in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell in 2014 and quite remarkable in his interpretation of the title role in Mozart’s Mitridate, rè di Ponto in 2016, the American tenor returns to La Monnaie for a recital with the English pianist Roger Vignoles, who has already accompanied on our stage Thomas Allen, Elisabeth Söderström and Kiri Te Kanawa. Drawing on a wide-ranging programme of works composed by Schubert, Strauss, Wolf, Liszt, Bellini, Rossini and Debussy, the American tenor will lead the audience from romanticism to bel canto.
