Having been recorded more than 350 times and having featured in many films, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto has had no trouble establishing itself as a key oeuvre of the repertoire. French violinist Renaud Capuçon tackles its notoriously technical complexity, accompanied by the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Alain Altinoglu. Also on the programme: the ‘Vorspiel und Liebestod’ from Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde, followed by Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, the symphonic poem composed by Richard Strauss that relates with humour and melancholy the misadventures of the eponymous folk hero.
