To accompany our production of Amilcare Ponchielli’s La Gioconda, directed by Olivier Py, La Monnaie is organising a day of study on this grand opera à l’italienne. A range of activities on Sunday 20 January offer an insight into the musical, literary and stage design aspects of this masterpiece.
The programme for the day includes a conversation between the historian Florence Naugrette, a specialist in the work of Victor Hugo, and the theatre academic Isabelle Moindrot, who specialises in 19th-century opera, a concertino of Ponchielli’s music, a presentation of the model of the set by the costume and set designer Pierre-André Weitz and, lastly, several musical interludes by the musicians, members of the chorus and dancers who perform in this production.
This event is open to everyone and is free for those who have a ticket to a performance of La Gioconda (but we advise you to book via MM Tickets). At midday we provide a lunch (for €5 on top of the ticket price).
