After months of cultural slumber, La Monnaie is looking forward to the launch of the 2020-21 season. However, in the current situation, we are obliged to take the programming for the start of our cultural year back to the drawing board. Our world creation of The Time of Our Singing has to be postponed until next season, while we have also had to cancel our production of The Sleeping Thousand. At the same time, we are presenting a Corona-proof alternative in our new production Is this the end?
For three weeks, our Concertini will resound at La Monnaie again. Since our musicians still have to perform without an audience for now, these unique chamber music performances, renamed Concert-E-ni, can be viewed on our website at the usual time: friday at 12:30. You will be able to rewatch these concerts as much as you like for one week.
Given the current, unpredictable situation, La Monnaie has decided to halt the sale of new season tickets, as well as the sale of single tickets for the 2020-21 season. As soon as we know more about the further development of the exit strategy and the start of the new season in September, we will communicate a new date.

On 21 January, the Jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) announced the winners for the 2020 edition, which mark the tenth anniversary of this prestigious musical recognition. La Monnaie received the award in the category “contemporary” for the double cd of Pascal Dusapin’s Penthesilea.

Alain Altinoglu’s contract as Musical Director of La Monnaie has just been extended until 2025, a commitment he will combine with his new position as new Music Director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony starting from the 2021-2022 season. Peter de Caluwe and the teams of La Monnaie are proud to be able to continue this collaboration for the next six years.
