Witnessed and met La Callas at La Monnaie in 1959
"When I heard that Maria Callas was coming to sing at La Monnaie, I said to myself: I have to be there". And Margaret Jacquet-Overzier did. In 1959, she was one of the hostesses at the unique gala concert of La Divina at La Monnaie. In the week in which we celebrate the 100th birthday of this legendary opera singer, we sat down with Margaret to relive this unique piece of Belgian music history, a society event with lots of Verdi, even more Dior, and most important of all: a singular voice.
